So what is the deal with all this “pinning” you may ask? Remember when you were a child and you had a dream or inspiration board? There’s no need for children’s scissors that barely cuts through paper or rubber cement here. You can build your dream board all with the click of a mouse! Whether you’re on the hunt for pictures of cute puppy dogs, exotic islands with clear blue water and white sand or a new recipe, you can find almost anything here.
As if we needed another social site to suck up whatever time we may have left in the days after spending 3 hours on Facebook, another 3 on Twitter, 8 hours at work, 2 hours at the gym, 1-2 hours commuting to and from work, 2-3 hours spending time with the family/eating/relaxing…when do we find the time to sleep?! After playing around on Pinterest for a few days, the hours slowly started changing to 1 hour on Facebook and Twitter, 8 hours at work, 2 hours at the gym, 1-2 hours commuting to and from work, 2-3 hours spending time with the family/eating/relaxing, 5 hours on Pinterest and NO sleep! Who knew scrolling through thousands upon thousands of pictures could make the time fly?? No wonder Pinterest is now the No. 3 Social Network site in the US with a whopping 104 million users. Of course that’s nowhere near the 7 billion Facebook users, but that’s still a pretty impressive number (hey, you can’t always be the best at everything). Most Pinterest fans are women with a 60/40 ratio of women to men….not surprising.
So what makes Pinterest so addictive? Column Five put all their research into this nice, pretty infographic that shows how this new trend is causing most people to seek out their nearest Pinterest Anonymous help group because you just…cannot…stop.
